Cea mai versatila familie de motoare produse in serie BMW M10 si derivatele

Am zis sa postez si aici o informatie surprinzatoare pe care am aflat-o si eu recent din Evo Magazine UK (numarul dedicat aniversarii de 25 ani a modelului BMW M3)

Se pare ca BMW a produs cea mai versatila familie de motoare de serie, care au ajuns sa echipeze de la compactul sportiv legendar BMW 2002 pina la supercar-ul M1, si de la masinile de raliu si touring M3 E30 pina la motoarele de Formula 2 si de F1 care au propulsat echipa Brabham la atitea victorii.

Mica istorie:

1962: Street - Motorul cu cod M10 - motorul originar de la care a pornit totul, sohc 8v patru cilindri in linie. A echipat BMW 1500 si 2002 (compact sport legendar). Intre 1499cmc - 1990 cmc

1966: Race - primul derivat din motorul originar M10, motorul de Formula 2, care pentru a spori confuzie este codificat tot M10, ca si motorul de serie pentru masinile de sosea). Dohc 16v, 1990 cmc, design radical al chiulasei cu supape de admisie intre arborii cu came. Dezvolta 300 CP pe nitrometan obtinind acceleratii record.

1968: Street and Race - M30, derivat cu sase cilindri in linie al lui M10, echipind modelul 3.0CSL. Intre 2693 cmc - 3430 cmc.

1970: Race - M12, a treia varianta de design pentru chulasa motorului pentru Formula 2, combustibil conventional, dominare totala in Formula 2.

1974: Street - M31, derivat din M10 originar, echipind modelul 2002 Turbo, prima masina europeana cu motor turboalimentat, 1990 cmc, 170 CP.

1978: Street (Race?) - M88/1, dohc, 24v, dezvoltat pentru supercarul M1, 3453 cmc, 273 CP

1981: Race - M12, motorul de Formula 1 turboalimentat, derivat din M12, 1.5 litri, 1500 cmc, 850 CP in format de cursa si 1400 CP in format de calificare, cistigator de campionat impreuna cu echipa Brabham, ulterior redenumit Megatron. Si nu vorbim doar de structura familiei de motoare, BMW Motorsport a folosit in realitate 1500 de blocuri motor recuperate de la fiare vechi pentru ca un bloc motor mai vechi are mai putine elemente stresoare ramase in el.

1982: Street - M88/3 sau S38, derivat din M88/1, folosit in modelele M5 ale generatiilor E28 rechin si E 34, 3453 cmc, 282 CP, crescind ulterior la 3795 cmc, 335 CP

1986: Street and Race - S14, motorul lui BMW M3 E30. practic este 2/3 din motorul S38. Dohc, 16v, 2302 cmc, 197 cmc, si in continuare unul din cele mai bune si dorite M3-uri.

1988: Street and Race - mai multa putere pentru M3 Evolution II, 2302 cmc, 217 CP (peste 300 CP in specificatia de curse). Producerea motoarelor standard din seria M10 inceteaza.

1990: Street and Race - S14, si mai multa putere pentru M3 Sport Evolution. 2467 cmc, 235 CP (peste 340 CP in specificatia de curse).

NU a existat niciodata o alta familie de motoare atit de versatila.

m-am mai documentat, am studiat despre familiile de motoare BMW, se vede ce au in comun si ce difera la toate aceste motoare din familie:

M49 a fost un motor derivat de curse pentru versiunea de curse 3.0CSL, din care ulterior a fost derivat motorul pentru BMW M1.

da si altii au familii de motoare superlongevive si superprolifice, cu jdemii de aplicatii si masini la activ si zeci de ani. Dar o gama de aplicatii atit de larga mergind de la compacta la supercar pt masinile de serie, si de la raliu si touring la formula 2 si formula 1 nu cred ca a mai avut altcineva.

The BMW S14 is a 2.3 L (2302cc) DOHC 16-valve I4 piston engine. It was used in the E30 M3. The S14 is essentially a BMW M10 engine block with a M88/S38 DOHC cylinder head (minus two cylinders). It has four separate throttle bodies. It developed 195 PS (143 kW/192 hp), or 200 PS (147 kW/197 hp) without a catalytic converter. A special tuned model, the S14 EVO producing 20 PS more. The 2.3 L version has a 93.4 mm bore and 84mm stroke.

Variations of this engine included a limited-edition 2.5 L (2467 cc) Sport Evo for motorsport homologation requirements, and a 2.0 L (1990cc) version with stroke reduced to 72.6 mm (often described incorrectly as being "sleeved" or of reduced bore) for the 320is, a sports model made specifically for the Portuguese and Italian markets. The 320is can be quickly distinguished from the E30 M3 by the absence of flared wheel arches.
